Both are best in the final scene: a naturalistic, real-time encounter between Maggie and her psychiatrist. It’s here that we really start to understand Maggie and her complex, distorted relationship to the truth, rooted in her own abuse as a child. Adam Loxley’s patience - insistent, but unemotional - makes proceedings particularly unnerving, especially when Maggie blurts out, “I enjoyed it.” The words come as a real jolt and one starts to appreciate quite how bizarre her existence is.
